Chris' six-month-old dreads had been initially waxed, but by the time he got to me, all the wax was removed. There were tons of rubber bands in his hair, and the locks had formed somewhat strangely because of the bands at the root and ends. His hair was seriously tangled at the roots and needed a comprehensive root separation. Some areas of his dreads were not mature enough for me to perform much maintenance, but I removed all the rubber bands, separated all the roots, tucked away the loose hairs that could be tucked away.

This is the 9-dread section before:

You can tell how tangled it is because my fingertips are actually touching his scalp and the rest is solid knots.

After separating the clumps, there were tons of loose hairs about!

Here's the section after cleaning and separating.

Chris came back for another cleanup. We had a limited amount of time to work, so I didn't get his entire head done. I did most of my work at the nape of his neck and in the back, and did a quick cleanup of the rest of his head. Thankfully, his hair was nowhere near as tangled as it was the first time.
